Bawana may provide over one lakh jobs

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 6. More than 200 factory owners who have been allotted plots to build industrial units in the sprawling industrial complex of Bawana in North-West Delhi developed by the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC) have already begun construction work though the pace is quite slow.

Stating this here today, Jalaj Shrivastava, DSIDC's Managing Director, said the relocation of industries was one of its key achievements. After the Supreme Court order calling for relocation of polluting units located in non-conforming areas, the DSIDC was entrusted with the task of developing Bawana and other surrounding areas. In all, 16,257 industrial plots of sizes varying from 100 to 250 square metres spread over five sectors have been developed in the complex.

"Possession letters have been taken by 3800 allottees and physical possession have been given to 3500 of them. About 200 allottees have taken up the construction of industrial units and 37 allottees have started their production,'' said Mr. Shrivastava. The area, it is hoped, will provide employment to a whopping 100,000 people.

The project, which is self-financing and will approximately cost Rs. 1000 crores, will be linked by Metro rail in future, he said, adding that the special feature of the area will be the development of independent cycle tracks. A total of 144 km water supply line, 140 km waste water line and 270 km storm water drains have been laid in the industrial area.

Mr. Shrivastava said that the work on the construction of combined effluent treatment plant has already commenced and already 25,000 trees and shrubs have been planted in the area. To meet the water requirement, five tube wells have been bored with the approval of the Central Ground Water Authority to make available one MGD water. The Delhi Jal Board has made available another 1.5 MGD water besides regular connection from their 1000 mm water mains. A 10 MVA ring main has already been laid by the NDPL and two 66 KV grid sub-stations have been completed.

"The DSIDC has also taken up the construction of cost-effective houses for industrial workers at Bawana. These houses are aesthetically designed with a view to providing a dignified and yet inexpensive dwelling area,'' Mr. Shrivastava said.

Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs who have been allotted plots/flatted factories under the Relocation Scheme of Industries will have to relocate themselves to the new sites allotted them in various industrial estates by April 30.
