Clear sky likely

NEW DELHI MARCH 6. The weatherman has forecast a mainly clear sky with possibility of strong surface winds in the afternoon on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 30 and 15 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Saturday were 29.7 and 14.6 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum of 30.1 and a minimum of 12.8 degrees Celsius.

Safdarjung recorded a maximum humidity of 76 per cent and a minimum of 24 per cent. At Palam, the maximum and minimum humidity stood at 90 per cent and 28 per cent respectively.

Scooterist run over

NEW DELHI MARCH 6 . A 35-year-old scooterist was run over by some unknown vehicle at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) flyover in South Delhi on Friday night.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Jiju Thomas, a resident of CSP Flats East of Kailash. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at Kotla Mubarakpur police station and investigations are on.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI MARCH 6. Two persons, who were into drug peddling, have been arrested from Sadar Bazar and Sarai Rohilla in North Delhi.

The accused, identified as Nishu Rehman and Ram Lal, were allegedly carrying 2 kg of ganja and 40 gm of smack along with 40 bottles of liquor respectively. The police said Ram Lal was a registered bad character. He was arrested when he and his wife were going somewhere in a Maruti car. While Nishu and Ram Lal have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Ram Lal's wife has been booked under the Excise Act.

Re-elected

NEW DELHI MARCH 6. Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptulla was today elected president of Indo-Arab Society for the 13th consecutive term.

Heptullah, who was first elected to the post in 1980 was unanimously re-elected in the elections held in Mumbai, a release said here.

``She (Heptulla) has been a unanimous choice because of the tremendous work she has been undertaking to strengthen Indo-Arab relations,'' it said.

The Indo-Arab Society was founded in 1954 with the objective of strengthening friendship and understanding between India and the Arab world.
