COIMBATORE, MARCH 6. The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) plans to commission a warehouse in Europe by December-end. According to the president, A. Sakthivel, it is an effort at tapping markets and improving the competitiveness of Tirupur knitwear exporters. The TEA also planned to establish retail outlets in importing countries to cater for the needs of all categories of buyers. It planned to study the potential of markets in developed countries, which could be tapped through sale on "off-the-shelf basis". The TEA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with St. John Freight Systems (SJFS) Limited last year. The TEA and the SJFS would study the market potential of retailers interested in procuring knitwear from the warehouse. An SJFS team, which visited Europe during November-December last, selected a place near Antwerp for setting up the warehouse. Mr. Sakthivel said that the SJFS was likely to set up an office-cum-warehouse in a couple of months. It would supply knitwear to retailers on a trial basis for about six months. The SJFS was also holding discussions with buying houses to "understand their logistics requirements".
