MLA's gesture

COIMBATORE, MARCH. 6. The Coimbatore East Constituency MLA, V.K. Lakshmanan, has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 2.5 lakhs for providing a split AC to the extended Intensive Care Unit (ICU) building of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Following a request from the Dean of the CMCH, Dr. R. Saraswathy, the MLA sanctioned a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs from his MLAs Constituency Development Fund for extending the ICU and the work was just completed. Acceding to the Dean's demand, the MLA sanctioned another Rs. 2.5 lakhs for providing the AC unit.

Warning

The Postal Department has called upon people to purchase stamps only from post offices. A release from the Superintendent of Post Offices, Tirupur Division, G.S. Gurusamy, said that the caution was based on reports relating to detection of counterfeit stamps.

Programme

SHIBI IAS Academy is organising a four-day free guidance programme. The programme is aimed at preparing candidates for written examinations and interviews for civil services, opportunities in call centres, legal profession and in the banking sector.

Found dead

Kumar (52) of Keezhchengalur in Nellithurai, near Pilloor Dam, was found dead near his farmhouse on Friday.

Forest officials and police suspect the victim to have been trampled to death by an elephant, which had strayed into the farmhouse in search of water. The Karamadai police are investigating. Meanwhile, R. Koyyan (40), a tribal from Tholampalayam who was attacked by a wild elephant at Neelampathy on February 25, succumbed to his injuries at the Mettuppalayam Government Hospital on Friday.
