Tension at Kadakkavoor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 6. A tense situation prevailed at Kadakkavoor following a clash between two groups at the Keelamattam Vankadavu temple festival on Friday night. Police said the temple committee office was attacked by a group of youth who were prevented from dancing during a festival programme. The SP (Rural), Balaram Upadhyaya, visited the spot and took stock of the situation. None have been arrested in connection with the incident so far.

`Malaria due to pollution' The Latheen Catholikka Aikyavedi and the Zam Zam Association have attributed the occurrence of malaria in the coastal areas of the district to the excessive pollution of the Parvathy Puthanar and the proximity of the sewage farm at Valiyathura. Unless the Government and the Corporation intervened in the matter, the pollution of the canal would surpass all limits and the situation would worsen further, a meeting of the functionaries of both the organisation said.

Model entrance test The State Bank of Travancore (SBT) Staff Recreation Club is organising a model test for the benefit of students preparing for the entrance examination for admission to the engineering and medical courses. The test will be conducted at the Government Model Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, on March 27 and 28. The last date for registration is March 15. Computer literacy The district panchayat president, Sasikala Shivsankar, has stressed the need for making the entire population computer literate. Inaugurating a continuing education centre under the District Upabhokthru Samithy at Mankottukonam in the Kollayil panchayat, she said that people should learn to change with the times.

Yoga therapy The Holistic Medicine and Stress Research Unit of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is organising a course on yoga therapy, for diseases like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, depression, stress and various physical and mental ailments. Mock interview The Organisation of Retired Bankers in Thiruvananthapuram (ORBIT) is conducting a two-day mock-interview- cum-coaching class for candidates appearing for the test to recruit officers at the South Indian Bank, on March 8 and 9. Further details can be had at Ph: 2723360 and 2355450.

Legal training The Centre for Clinical Legal Education, Vanchiyoor, is offering a short-term course of six months duration to enable the young lawyers to appear for the selection tests for the posts of judicial officers. Applications will be issued from the LA Court Centre at Vanchiyoor and the Kerala Law Academy Law College, Peroorkada. The last date for submitting applications is March 22.
