Cochin University of Science and Technology Financial aid: The Department of Scheduled Caste has sanctioned Rs. one crore to the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) for starting job-oriented courses with SC/ST students as the main intake. The university had submitted a proposal for starting five courses of eight semesters duration. Around 30 students will be admitted into each course. The courses include B.Sc. programmes in Physiotherapy, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Medical Radiology Technology and Ophthalmic Assistance. The aid will be used for the following requirements: Staff (Teaching and non-teaching - Rs.30 lakhs, Laboratory and Library - Rs. 30 lakhs, equipment - Rs. 20 lakhs, furniture - Rs. 15 lakhs, building - Rs. 3 lakhs, administrative expenses - Rs.2 lakhs. The institute for conducting these courses will have a managing committee with Principal Secretary as Chairman and Director, Scheduled Caste Development Department and a representative from the Cusat as members. Coaching class: The Employment and Guidance Bureau of the university will conduct classes for the UGC-CSIR lectureship and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) examinations to be held in June. Separate classes will be held for the common examination conducted by UGC-CSIR, (paper I part-A) Life Science, Chemical Science and Mathematics. The fees for the coaching programme: Rs. 1,000 for common subjects, Rs. 1,250 for Life Science, Chemical Science and Mathematics. The total number of seats in each class: 35. Five seats each will be reserved for SC/ST candidates. One seat has been reserved for physically challenged candidate. Admission will be on first-come-first-served basis. Project scientist: The Department of Electronics has invited applications for the post of a project scientist in the project titled "Implementation of an intelligent identifier for ambient noise sources" sponsored by the Naval Research Board, New Delhi. Essential qualifications: M.Tech. Electronics / M.Sc (Electronics Science). Desirable qualifications: Experience in Digital signal processing/Neural Networks. The selected candidate will receive Rs.10, 000 per month.
