BANGALORE, MARCH 6. The Bangalore city police will soon start using state-of-the-art speed laser vision cameras to curb speeding, which is one of the major causes of road accidents. The Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), M. Lakshman, says that the police will get four imported cameras in a few days. The cameras, each of which costs Rs. 5 lakh, will record the speeds of vehicles and their registration numbers. A printout of the information can be taken, he adds. The cameras, mounted on tripods, will be installed on select roads on the outskirts of the city and the Ring Road where speeding is common. After getting printouts, the traffic police will flash a message to officials to stop a speeding vehicle and impose a fine on the guilty driver, Mr. Lakshman says.
