Women's rights

Sir, — This refers to the passing of the Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, denying women their status as permanent residents if they marry a non-resident of the State. It is a pity that the PDP and the Congress, which have Mehbooba Mufti and Sonia Gandhi at the helm, have allowed such a bill to be passed. Does International Woman's Day (which falls today) hold any significance for us?

Kanika Gupta,
Jammu

Sir, — Such discrimination against women continues to keep us in the dark ages.

Srinivas S.,
Visakhapatnam, A.P.
