Realtor murder mystery solved

By Marri Ramu

HYDERABAD, MARCH 7. The Kukatpally police have solved the murder mystery of Palakonda Krishna Mohan, a realtor, after reportedly taking into custody a former Telugu Yuvatha leader, Ankala Sriramulu, the prime accused in the case.

The breakthrough in the case came when skeletal remains of Mohan were collected from a water sump in Mayurinagar under Serilingampally police station area a few days ago, police sources said. The case took several twists and turns. Mohan's wife, Lavanya, had lodged a complaint on April 7 last year stating that her husband had gone missing on April 5.

A resident of Vasanthanagar Colony in Kukatpally, Mohan was into real estate business. He reportedly developed differences with Sriramulu in connection with sale of some vacant plots belonging to the Gopalraonagar Co-operative Housing Society at Kukatpally. The Kukatpally police had recently arrested two persons on the charge of cheating people by selling plots of the society with forged documents.

Sriramulu bore grudge against Mohan. He struck a deal with Rawoof of Ongole to kill Mohan and allegedly paid Rs. 1 lakh as advance amount. Rawoof introduced himself to Mohan as a real estate broker. On April 5 Rawoof and Mohan met at Jubilee Hills to discuss about the deal. Later, Rawoof reportedly took Mohan to Sriramulu's office in Kukatpally on the pretext of settling the deal.

Rawoof offered a cool drink laced with poison to Mohan. However, Mohan refused to consume the drink. Later, Rawoof and his accomplice, Baba Vali, allegedly strangulated Mohan to death with a wire. They put the body in a gunny bag, shifted it Mayurinagar in a car and dumped it in the water sump.

The police sources said that Lavanya pointed the needle of suspicion on Sriramulu in her complaint. Sriramulu was brought to the police station, questioned and let off as he refuted the allegations. But the apprehension of Rawoof by the Ongole district police in February this year spilled the beans in the case.

During interrogation Rawoof confessed to the police that he had killed Mohan at the behest of Sriramulu. It was only after learning about Rawoof's confession that the Kukatpally police had altered the missing case to that of murder.

An accused in several killings, including the twin murders of Telugu Desam Party leaders in Addanki, Rawoof escaped from the police while being taken to court on February 16. Subsequently, the police shot him dead after a chase.

Based on Rawoof's statement, the Kukatpally police brought Vali, who was already arrested, here to trace the body. The sources said some skeletal remains were collected from the water sump and Sriramulu was rounded up in the Mangalhat area.

A forensic expert said the DNA fingerprinting of the bones could establish the identity of the victim.
