NEW DELHI, MARCH 8. The noted veteran Bollywood film-maker and actor, Manoj Kumar, and the small screen mother-in-law of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhu Bahu Thi fame, Apra Mehta, today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Union Law Minister, Arun Jaitley, presented them at a press conference at the party headquarters here. Though Manoj Kumar, known for his patriotism-based Hindi movies such as Roti Kapda Aur Makan, Upkar, Kranti and Purab and Paschim had campaigned for the erstwhile Jan Sangh since 70s, he formally joined the party today. He met the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, yesterday.

The entry of Apra Mehta, a Gujarati actress who shot to fame with the teleserial Kyunki Saas..., to the BJP, comes close on the heels of her small screen daughter-in-law, Smriti Irani's admission about a month ago. Both the BJP and the Congress have been vying with each other in luring Bollywood stars. Balbir Chand, a former IPS officer of Bihar, also joined the party and would work in Bihar.
