TIRUNELVELI, MARCH 8 . Cadres of various political parties staged a demonstration in front of the Kanyakumari Collectorate at Nagercoil today, urging the administration to take action against those allegedly involved in the murder of the watchman of the Keeripaarai Government Rubber Corporation estate. The protestors alleged that the victim, B. Rajendran, was forcibly taken away from his house on November 24 last year by the ranger of the Azhagiyapandiyapuram range, C. Sobitharaj, and his body was recovered under mysterious circumstances next day. When the workers affiliated to various parties struck work from November 25, demanding action against those behind the murder, the administration promised that the Revenue Divisional Officer would hold an inquiry, submit a report within 15 days. Since nothing happened, the functionaries of all parties and the family of Rajendran observed a fast at Thadikkaarankonam. The district administration, which initiated peace talks with the workers, promised that appropriate action would be taken before January 31. "Contrary to the repeated assurances, no action has been initiated to bring the culprits to book, and a top official of the District Forest Office is shielding the suspects," the protestors alleged. The INTUC general secretary, N. Kumaran, led the agitation. P. Wilson Royappan of the DMK, A. Arumugam and J.F. Jino of the Congress, K.L.S. Santhanam of the AITUC, S. Rajan of the Kanikaarar Marumalarchi Sangam, Sugumaran alias Mani of the Thotta Thozhilaalar Sangam, T.E. Tagore of the Congress Jananaayaga Peravai, A. Ravi of the Farmers' Association and human rights activists participated in the agitation.
