Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MARCH 8. The Pondicherry State council of the All-India Students' Federation (AISF) has called upon the administration to ensure that the selection of teachers for the Government Arts and Sciences Colleges was made within Pondicherry. The federation secretary, G. Selvam, said here today that presently the interview and selection of teachers for colleges had been done in New Delhi by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Candidates whose mother tongue was not Tamil and who hailed from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and from northern States, were posted here. They found it difficult to communicate the subjects in the vernacular language. Hence the authorities should ensure selection of local candidates on priority basis and interview should be held in the Union Territory itself. The federation also objected to the on-going work of putting up compound walls around the Arikamedu site, known for its historical importance.
