BANGALORE, MARCH 8. The Karnataka High Court on Monday refused to stay the order of the single judge in the S.N. Hegde case and ordered issue of notices to the respondents on an appeal filed by the Lokayukta. The appellant submitted that the respondents, Prof. S.N. Hegde, the former Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University, and H.N. Ashwathanarayana, Executive Secretary of TTL College of Business Management, Mysore, had on February 4 had challenged the Lokayukta report. The report, submitted to the Government, sought action against Mr. Hegde on the ground that he had allegedly accepted a bribe of $ 7,000 for sanctioning a bachelor's course in commerce in TTL College and for enhancing the student intake in the business management course from 40 to 60. The Advocate-General, A.N. Jayaram, who appeared for the Lokayukta, sought a stay on the single judge's order quashing the Lokayukta report. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice N.K. Jain and Justice V.G. Sabhahit ordered issue of notices to counsel of respondents and adjourned the case.
