TIRUCHI, MARCH.8. The Thennur road overbridge in the city was opened to traffic on a trial basis from today. The bridge will be kept open till March 22 after which it would be closed briefly for blacktopping the Madurai Road and approaches on the Thennur highway. Meanwhile, the police have withdrawn the traffic diversion that had been enforced on the Madurai Road between Marakkadai and the Sophy's Corner Junction. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Maheswar Dayal, holding additional charge of crime and traffic, in a statement, said all town buses operating on the Central Bus Stand-Chathiram Bus Stand route would no longer take the diversion via the West Boulevard Road at Marakkadai. Buses and other vehicles would be allowed to ply over the bridge on the Madurai Road to reach the Sophy's Corner Junction as usual. Buses operating between Chathiram Bus Stand and Vayalur would also revert to their original permitted route via Thennur. These buses would operate via Mainguard Gate, West Boulevard Road, Marakkadai and Thennur from today. The buses would operate via Thennur and Madurai Road in the return direction.
