EC concerned over poll code violation

LUCKNOW, MARCH 8. The Election Commission has taken a serious note of the graffiti on walls and posters and banners on public buildings in the State by political parties in violation of the electoral code of conduct.

According to EC sources here today, the district authorities, particularly in Lucknow, would be directed to remove all the unauthorised advertisements put up by the parties for their election rallies.

The EC took note of the matter after several public buildings displayed the wall writings of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) proposed election rally at the Ambedkar grounds here on March 13.

Earlier, the Commission had directed all the district returning officers to set up a standing committee in their respective areas to stop defacement of public property.

All the district officials have also been asked to send their compliance reports to the EC by March 15 on the action taken against political parties on unauthorised advertisements.

Meanwhile, the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Vijay Sharma, today reviewed the law and order situation of the State with the Inspector General of Police (Law and order), Brij Lal. Mr Sharma also sent directives to all the districts to launch a special drive against anti-social elements so that the Lok Sabha polls could be held peacefully.
