Good governance

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. A five-day programme on "Good Governance" began at the Indian Institute of Public Administration here today. The programme has been designed to develop a comprehensive methodology for a better appreciation of the concept of good governance, to enable participants understand various meaning of good governance, develop a quantitative method in measuring the performance of a government and appreciate the significance of public participation in the decision-making process. Senior and middle level officers drawn from various public sector undertakings and state government departments are attending the programme.

Maha Murkh Sammelan

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. The award of "Maha Murkh'' was conferred on the Delhi Industries and Labour Minister, Mangat Ram Singhal, at the Antarrashtriya Murkh Maha Sammelan (AMMS) held at Bhagirath Palace on Sunday.

The AMMS's chairman, Ram Prakash Gupta, conferred the award on Mr. Singhal, who was garlanded, crowned and given a donkey ride. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singhal said he was overwhelmed by the love and affection showered on him. He also released a magazine, "Kanwari Kali" on the occasion.

Mr. Gupta called upon the AMMS to fight against the forces of disruption and violence and work for world peace. Well-known television artiste and writer, Som Nath Nagar, was presented the "Murkh Vibhushan'' award.

Book on new India released

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. The Chief of Army Staff, General N.C. Vij, today released a book "Indian Podium for the Next Generation" edited by Sekhar Basu Roy. The book is a compilation of 11 articles covering a wide range of issues concerning India in the "New Millennium". These issues range from the need and structure of the defence forces to education policy, infrastructure development and environment awareness.

Laser cure for prostate

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. To treat patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, the Medical Point Urology Laser Institute (MPULI) today launched the country's first GreenLight PVP laser procedure. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a non-cancerous enlargement of prostate which is experienced by most men after the age of 50.


The GreenLight PVP laser procedure is unlike any other enlarged prostate treatment since it combines the effectiveness of an invasive surgical procedure with the safety of a minimally invasive treatment.


The Managing Director of MPULI, Sunil Anand, said: "Our Institute will not only provide succour to the prostate suffering Indians but will also offer complete urological solutions."

The Chief Urologist of MPULI, Rajeev Sood, said: "The GreenLight PVP laser procedure is a quick and bloodless operation compared to the existing Holmium Laser Enucleation Prostate. It is also a cost-effective and complication-free procedure."
