Drop in humidity

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 32 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21.2 degree Celsius on Monday. Humidity dropped from 83 per cent in the morning to 55 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Monday: groundnut oil - 54.50, palmolein oil - 47, sunflower oil - 53, tamarind (flower variety) - 26 to 29, tamarind (karipulli variety) - 33 to 40, chilli - 25 to 28, rice (2716) - 11 to 11.50, rice (superfine) - 13 to 13.50, rice (samba masuri) - 13.50 to 14, black gram - 20, red gram - 25.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 7 a.m. and 12 noon in Krishnalanka, Ajit Singh Nagar and Ring Road sections on Tuesday. The affected areas are: Dwarakanagar, Tirumalarao Veedhi, Dintyalavari Veedhi, Sankara Matam Veedhi, Ramalayam Veedhi, High School Road, Ranadheernagar, Kalpana Prints Street, Rahiman Veedhi, Pachameda Bazar, Vallurivari Veedhi, Gunturuvari Veedhi, Chowdaripet, Old Police Station Road, Metla Bazar, Rice Shop Bazar and Post Office Bazar in Krishnalanka section.

Old Singh Nagar, Rajarajeswaripet, P&T Colony, Nandamuri nagar, Andhra Prabha Colony, Kanakadurganagar, Andhra Patrica Colony, part of Krishna Hotel Centre in Ajit Singh Nagar section and Teachers' Colony, RTC colony, New P&T Colony, VKP Colony, Maruthi Coop. Colony, Guru Nanak Colony and KBO Colony in Ring Road section.

TDP workers join Congress

Over 150 workers of Telugu Desam Party of the 48th division joined the Congress here on Monday in the presence of the former Union Minister, P. Upendra.

FPS tests postponed

Following the announcement of election schedule, the district administration has postponed the conduct of written and oral tests for allotment of fair price shops (FPS) till the elections process is completed. Candidates will be informed about future dates of the examination later.

Training in motor driving

The Government Industrial Training Institute has invited applications from candidates for training in motor driving and heavy vehicle driving. The selection will be made on the basis of seventh class marks. Candidates, in the age group of 21 to 28 years, are eligible to apply.

Fee for the three-month course is Rs. 1,500 for general category and Rs. 900 for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Application forms can be obtained from the institute premises on payment of Rs.10. The last date for submission of applications is March 15.

P&G slashes rates

Proctor and Gamble Home Products Ltd has announced a reduction in the prices of Ariel and Tide bags (large size) by 20 per cent to 50 per cent. The 200 gm Ariel pack will now be available for Rs. 22 against Rs. 30 earlier while the price of Tide 200 gm pack has been from Rs. 20 to Rs. 10. Prices of the 500 gm, 1 kg, 1.5 kg and 2 kg packs have also been slashed.
