MADURAI, MARCH 8. Two persons, including a three-year-old girl, were killed and three others injured in an accident at Avaniapuram here today. According to the police, C. Anitha (3) of Villapuram was walking home when a lorry, returning to Madurai after unloading garbage at a Melakkal dumping yard, knocked her down. The driver applied sudden brakes but the vehicle swerved to his left, hitting a moped-rider, M. Ramu Velalar (40) of Pethaniapuram, who was proceeding to his office. While Ramu Velalar died on the spot, Anitha succumbed to injuries at the Government Rajaji Hospital. The lorry also rammed into a roadside tea stall injuring three persons. The driver, R. Kannan (26) of Sellur was taken into custody, the sources said, adding that the condition of the injured was stable. The Avaniapuram police have registered a case.
