HYDERABAD, MARCH 8. Five Holi revellers, including four youngsters, were drowned in tanks on Hyderabad city outskirts on Sunday. A ninth class student, J. Durga Prasad (15) and his friend, P. Mahesh (18), were drowned in the Bandlaguda tank around 3.30 p.m. when they stepped into the tank for a bath after celebrating the festival of colours. Both of them were residents of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, the L.B. Nagar Sub-Inspector, R. Jagadishwar Reddy, said. Prasad was studying in Shanti Niketan School. As the news of their spread, several residents of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar rushed to the area. Unfortunately, a 55-year-old man, K. Kanakaiah, of the same locality, who entered the tank to retrieve the bodies, was also drowned the same evening. "Kanakaiah was in an intoxicated condition," the SI said. Efforts to fish out their bodies did not yield results till late in the night. Bloated bodies of all the three surfaced this morning. In another incident, a tailor, K. Shekhar (20) and his friend, Md. Asgar (21), a butcher, were drowned in a pond in Rajendranagar police station area. The victims went to the pond along with two other friends -- Riyaz and Ghouse. After Shekhar and Asgar got drowned, Riyaz and Ghouse fled the area. Their bodies were fished out today. Shekhar was a resident of Poolbagh in New Malakpet, the police said.
