NEW DELHI, MARCH 8. A Delhi court today sentenced a person to seven years' imprisonment for stabbing his friend while playing cards one year back. Additional Sessions Judge, J. M. Malik, sentenced Dilawar alias Dillu for stabbing Rashil on his chest and right hand after a dispute that erupted during the play. Mr Malik also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 and in default the convict will undergo a sentence of more one year. The Judge in his order said, ``It is surprising that in some parts of the capital city the rule of knife prevails. We are living in goondaraj and the common people have no respect for the law of the land. The court has to take punitive steps to curb this type of crimes.'' According to the prosecution, Rashil and his brother Pappu, both from Orissa, were at their house in the Kabristan Basti in Nizamuddin when Dilawar, Sathu, Litten arrived to play cards on February 12, 2003, Id day. As Dilawar and Litten lost the game, they picked up a fight with Rashil. Dilawar pushed Rashil who fell on the floor. Then he stabbed him on his chest and right hand, said the Prosecution Counsel during the argument. Pappu, the eyewitness, had taken Rashil to the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in an autorickshaw for treatment. Dilawar was arrested by the police on August 6, 2003 and subsequently released on bail. Dilawar had been convicted under the section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for attempt to murder.
