PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 9. The carcass of a wild elephant was found in a putrefied condition in the interior forests areas of Thekkuthode-Paruthipparamala in the the Konni Forest Reserve on Monday. According to Forest Department sources, a group of tribals who had gone to collect forest produce came across the carcass on Monday afternoon. The veterinary surgeon at Seethathode, D.Shinekumar, conducted a post-mortem on the carcass before burying it in the forest areas on Tuesday afternoon. The Forest Department sources said that the mouth of the pachyderm was found badly damaged. It appeared that an explosive or a cracker had exploded in its mouth. They surmise it to the handiwork of poachers. The Forest Department has registered a case in connection with the incident. A carcass of a wild tusker had been found in the same forest areas three months ago with its trunks severed and tusks and teeth missing.
