Crisis in film industry continues

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, MARCH 9. The standoff between the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) which resulted in the stopping of all production activities in the film industry is continuing with the protagonists preferring to lie low for the time being.

Though it is rumoured that the Chamber, which represents producers, distributors and exhibitors, might give its nod to continue the production works of a couple of films slated for Vishu release, the Chamber president, Siyad Kokker, asserted that no such decision had been taken so far. He told The Hindu that the Chamber would decide on the next course of action at its meeting here on March 12. On Wednesday, the Chamber would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, highlighting the major problems faced by the film industry and its various demands.

On the other side, AMMA is apparently watching as to how the situation would unfold. The AMMA president, Innocent, said the artistes were ready to commence work at any time. AMMA, he said, would not take any decisions till the Chamber came out with its future plans.
