MANGALORE, MARCH 9. The College of Speech and Hearing, a branch of Dr. M.V. Shetty Institute of Health Sciences, Mangalore, has received a certificate of "good performance'' from the Rehabilitation Council of India. M.R. Shetty, Secretary of Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust, received the award at a function in New Delhi recently. A press release from Dr. Shetty here said the Rehabilitation Council gave the certificate based on a report by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee. A five-member team of the committee visited the college in February 2003. He said the team apart from recommending the college for the certificate, a modification of the earlier practice of awarding stars, cited the modern curricula and the application of modern techniques by the college in the area of speech and hearing. He said the college was offering courses in B.Sc and M.Sc in Speech and Hearing. These courses had been renamed Bachelor of Audiology, Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) and MASLP, respectively. The college also sponsored Developmental Eclectic Approach to Language Learning (DEALL) Project for the rehabilitation of children with autism, he added.
