Nadar Peravai not to support AIADMK

By Our Staff Reporter

RAMANATHAPURAM, MARCH 9. The Tamil Nadu Nadar Peravai will not support the AIADMK alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, as the State Government has `failed' to ensure the welfare of toddy tappers, the State president, N.R. Dhanabalan, told presspersons here on Monday. Toddy tappers, who were put to untold hardship following the ban on selling toddy, had been awaiting in vain a favourable reply from the Government for the last six years, he said.

Moreover, the police ``foisted non-bailable cases'' on innocent toddy tappers for climbing palm trees. The Government was under the impression that toddy sale would affect IMFL retail sale.

There were six crore palm trees in the State and nearly 10 lakh people depended on that source for their livelihood.
