Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MARCH 10 . Senior Professor of Economics in Pondicherry University, M. Ramadoss, who is the PMK nominee contesting the Pondicherry Lok Sabha seat, has intensified campaign. He is spending at least 16 hours a day to meet voters in almost all hamlets and villages in and around Pondicherry since past 10 days. He told The Hindu today that he had been promising to make Pondicherry a most developed Union Territory and also to procure it a special category status ultimately. Mr. Ramadoss, a native of Pondicherry has been a teacher for more than 30 years and had also associated himself in various research, administrative and organisational capacities. He is a recipient of the National Award instituted by the Union Finance Ministry for his best suggestions for framing of the Union Budget in 1986 during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister and V. P. Singh as Finance Minister. Mr. Ramadoss, who spares no time in wooing the voters is also a member of Indian Council of Medical Research and is associated with various other leading Committees and organisations. He said that there was good response from the voters and very soon a State level Coordination Committee associating representatives of the alliance partners (Congress, DMK and the communist parties besides PMK) would be formed. The PMK would soon release its election manifesto and the party founder, S. Ramadoss, would be on a visit in the next one week here for campaign.
