KOCHI, MARCH. 10. An international workshop on oesophagus cancer will be held at the Lakeshore Hospital here from March 12 to 14. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Managing Director of Lakshore, Philip Augustine, said that expert cancer surgeons from Japan and other prominent specialists will be participating in the workshop. Emeritus professor, Tokyo Medical College, Hiroshi Akiyama, who had introduced a new surgical method for the treatment of cancer will demonstrate this technique at the workshop. He will lead the team comprising Head of the Department of Surgery, Juntendo University, Tokyo, Masahiko Tsurumaru and Assitant Professor, Yoshimi Iwanuma. As part of the workshop, surgical procedures on five patients will be undertaken free of cost, Dr. Augustine said. Delegates from Sri Lanka and Malaysia will also be participating in the workshop apart from medical experts from other parts of the country.
