KASARAGOD, MARCH 11. The Minister for Local Administration, Cherkalam Abdulla, has been elected the new president of the district committee of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). Previously the secretary of the district unit, he replaced the veteran, K. S. Abdulla. Mr. Cherkalam Abdulla was the founder-secretary of the Cherkala league unit. The following are the other office-bearers: M. C. Khamarudhin (general secretary), C. T. Muhammedali, MLA, (treasurer), Kallatra Abbas Haji, the Municipal chairman, T. E. Abdulla, P. Muhammed Kunhi Master and Basheer Muhammed Kunhi (vice-presidents), P. B. Abdula Razak and N. A. Khalid (joint secretaries). The district committee has been revamped after about seven years. Mr. Khamarudhin said there were 1 lakh active members in the party in the district. The election to the ward, mandalam and panchayat committees were held prior to the election to the district unit.
