PANAJI, MARCH 11. The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology, and Applied Nutrition, Goa, has been attracting a good number of local students for short-term courses offered by the institute, which are known to provide immediate employment, rather than the three-year degree course. Roque A. D'Cruz, principal of the institute, told reporters here on Wednesday that only 214 copies of the prospectus for the academic year 2004-05 had been sold at the institute, indicating the decreasing interest in the degree course among local students. However, the short-duration courses in cookery, food, and beverage service and other subjects attracted a large number of local students, he said. The institute was established by the Government of India as the Food Craft Institute in July 1968. It was upgraded and renamed in 1984. The institute was affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and administered by the Department of Tourism, Government of India, Dr. D'Cruz said. The institute is situated at Alto Porvorim, Bardez, Goa 403 521.
