NIZAMABAD, MARCH 11. Leaders of various political parties on Wednesday promised that grievances of beedi workers would be included in the election manifesto of each party and all steps taken to redress them. The leaders were addressing the State conference of beedi workers organised by the Andhra Pradesh Beedi Workers' Union. The former MP, Gaddam Ganga Reddy, the former Nirmal MLA, A. Indrakaran Reddy, the BJP State secretary, Aljapur Srinivas, the CPI (M) secretariat member, Gattu Ramchandra Rao, the CPI State executive member, Azeez Pasha, the CPI (ML New Democracy) secretary, K.Yadagiri, were present. Speakers at the conference were unanimous in their opinion that beedi workers were facing crisis due to denial of proper wages and encouragement. The leaders said that political parties would fight for the cause of beedi workers and force the managements to redress their grievances. Accusing the managements of using pressure tactics to extract work from the workers by denying them PF facilities and paying low wages, the leaders said such tendencies demoralised and created a sense of insecurity among beedi workers. Mr. Ganga Reddy said that it was the initiative taken by him that ESI hospital was established in Nizamabad district headquarters to take care of the medical needs of beedi workers.
