NEW DELHI, MARCH 11. A 49-year-old man, who is alleged to have grabbed properties in posh colonies across the Capital by forging documents, has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch. Jagdeep Singh Rikhy, a resident of Shanti Niketan, recently lodged a complaint with the EOW alleging that one P.C. Gupta had grabbed his property on the basis of forged documents. Investigations revealed that Jagdeep had inherited the Shanti Niketan property in accordance with the will of his grandfather. In 2001, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) informed him that a total of Rs. 5,35,717 was to be paid by him as house tax for that property. He inquired from the MCD and came to know that the property had already been mutated in the name of one VIP Firms Limited in favour of P.C. Gupta. In the meantime, Gupta contacted Jagdeep and demanded Rs. 2 crores to settle the dispute. Gupta claimed that Jagdeep's grandfather, Niranjan Das Rikhy, had gifted that property to his domestic help, Mishri Lal, debarring all his legal heirs. Gupta allegedly got fake sale documents prepared showing that Mishri Lal had sold him the property against a payment of Rs. 75 lakhs in cash. Investigations, however, revealed that no one by the name Mishri Lal had ever worked for Niranjan Das Rikhy. He was the caretaker of the Socialist Republic Party office at Bara Hindu Rao, and had passed away around three years ago. Further probe revealed that Gupta had also grabbed some properties on Tughlak Road and New Friends Colony on forged documents. Subsequently, the EOW arrested him.
