CPI(M) plea to CEC

HYDERABAD, MARCH 11. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), in its representation to the Chief Election Commissioner, T. S. Krishna Murthy, today, wanted authorities to be judicious in granting security to candidates of Telugu Desam and BJP, expressing fears that it might be used to intimidate rivals. However, it appreciated the need for protection to those having real threat.

As the introduction of electronic voting machines would reduce the number of polling stations, the party wanted election authorities not to locate booths meant for weaker sections, at far-away places.
