By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MARCH 11. Three men have been arrested by the city police on charges of kidnapping a visa agent and demanding ransom.

The police said Ashraf Ali (29), a resident of Kasimalli Street at Ice House, was kidnapped allegedly by Akram (29), Akbar (32) and Sameer (35), and taken to Bangalore.

Ashraf Ali had cheated them by promising visas to Malaysia, the police said.

The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of Rs. 50,000 from Ashraf's wife, Sareena Banu, who filed a complaint with the Ice House police.

Acting on her complaint, a team went to Bangalore, where the men had detained Ashraf.

The team rescued him and arrested the three men, who have been booked under Sections 365 and 120 B (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code.

Women arrested

The police arrested four women who allegedly stole sarees and other dress materials from showrooms at T. Nagar. The women were arrested based on a complaint filed by the showroom owners. They have been booked under Section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
