Vande Mataram

Sir, — The excommunication of 54 Muslims in Agra, and the annulment of their marriage by Mufti Abdul Quddus Rumi for saying that singing of vande mataram is not un-Islamic (March 11), is retrograde. The singing of the national song or proclaiming that `I am an Indian' should not invite penalty.

P. Santhana Krishnan,
Chennai

Chennai
