MARCH 12
. As many as 44 child workers were rescued from different parts of the city today in raids conducted jointly by the Kovai Child Labour Abolition Support Society (CLASS) and the district administration.
Following complaints about employment of children in eateries, shops, industrial units and automobile workshops, the Collector, N. Muruganandam, ordered a crackdown and constituted special teams. The teams conducted checks at Gandhipuram, Gandhipark, Ukkadam, Town Hall, Sullivan Street and the Avinashi Road flyover area.
