PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 13 . The head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church, Philipose Mar Chrisostum Mar Thoma Metropolitan, has stressed the need to promote value-based education from the school-level so as to preserve the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the country. Mar Chrisostum was delivering the presidential address at the inaugural function of the Believers' Church Residential School (BCRS) at Chumatra, near Thiruvalla, on Saturday afternoon. "Educational institutions should give priority to prepare the children to learn lessons from Nature, observe things around them and to equip themselves to meet various challenges facing them," Mar Chrisostum said. The Revenue Minister, K.M. Mani, inaugurated the new school complex by lighting a traditional lamp. The Minister said the Government was on a mission to make Kerala the educational destination in the country. The Nair Service Society general secretary, P.K. Narayana Panicker, inaugurated the modern computer laboratory. Al Haj Mohammed Nadeer Maulavi, chairman of the Imam Council, opened the new school library on the occasion. The Bishop, K.P. Yohannan of the Beleivers' Church in India, delivered the keynote address. Tthe Thiruvalla Bishop of the Malankara Catholic Church, Isaac Mar Cleemis, delivered the benedictory speech at the function. The AICC secretary, Ramesh Chennithala, Joseph M. Puthusserry and Elizabeth Mammen, both MLAs, the Thiruvalla municipal chairman, Raju Mundamattom, the Malankara Orthodox Church secretary, Alexander Karackal, K.C. John and the BJP national council member, Prathapachandra Varma, were among those who addressed the function.
