KOCHI, MARCH 13. The Minister for Water Resources, T. M. Jacob, has said that the Government will take steps to dig borewells in panchayats to tide over the acute water crisis. Speaking at a meeting held here today to discuss the measures to tackle the drought situation, he said that ferro-cement tanks would be utilised to store water. All existing sources of water would be preserved and the Government would initiate measures to revive all pending power projects, he said. The meeting discussed the water shortage experienced by residents in the city, especially in the Vypeen and Njarackal areas. "Many are using drinking water to water plants and to wash their vehicles. Wells have dried up in some places, putting extra strain on water supplied by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA)," said Susan Jacob, superintending engineer, KWA.
