Thrissur
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, MARCH 13. A juvenile police unit to protect the rights of children would be constituted in Thrissur soon, the district Superintendent of Police, S. Janardanan Nair, today said. He was speaking at the inaugural session of a three-day workshop for the police officials in the district on the U.N. Child Rights Convention and Juvenile Justice Act-2000 organised by the Social Welfare Department's district probation office. Inaugurating the workshop, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, R. Narayana Pisharody, recalled that both the U.N. Convention and the Juvenile Justice Act had clearly spelt out the rules and regulations for protecting the rights of the children. He said it was the police force that would be able to interfere effectively to curb the growing attacks and abuse of children. The Social Welfare Department joint director, K. K. Mani, the Government Law College Reader, M. C. Valsan, and C. K. Raghavanunni, were among those who took classes.
