Non-committal on cricket

By R. Chandrakanth

BANGALORE, MARCH 13 . As the final overs were being played at Karachi with India pulling off a close victory, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, stayed back in the Swaraj Mazda van to get to know the result. When he was reminded that the people of Arsikere town were waiting to hear him, he came down to address them.

In the morning, Mr. Advani said he was not sure what the result of the India-Pakistan match would be as both the teams were good. "I hope India, which has a good batting line-up wins. No one can bet who the winner is going to be."

Mr. Advani recalled that in 1978, he had been to his birthplace, Karachi, for the "first and last time" to witness the match between India and Pakistan. "Now, I am eagerly looking forward to the matches. Since I am on this yatra, I will not be able to see the match on television, but I keep track of the scores."
