Stop politicising Narendran panel report: Kunhalikutty

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, MARCH 13. The Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, has said that there should not be efforts to politicise or sensationalise the Narendran Commission report.

Inaugurating a debate on, ``Narendran Commission Report -- Problems and Approach'' organised by the Forum for Ideal Thoughts here today, Mr. Kunhalikutty said the most important thing was to find a solution to the problems of the communities which had not got jobs for which they were eligible under the reservation system.

``By sensationalising the issue, some communities, which should have got the jobs, would be at a loss,'' he said.

Referring to the Kerala situation, he said that all religious or casteist groups in the State were capable of understanding the rights of other communities.

``The Government had decided to refer the report to the Cabinet sub-committee with the aim of holding discussions with all religious groups. Much progress had been achieved on the issue. There is also a legal problem as a case was pending before the Supreme Court on the issue,'' he said.

The Minister said all the communities had not been adequately benefited from the reservation system.

Along with the Muslim community, some other communities too were not adequately represented in the State services, he said.

He said the Assembly had passed the Reservation Protection Act to bypass the verdict of the Full Bench of the Supreme Court against reservation. The former Mayor, C.J. Robin presided.

Earlier, a group of women from Marad met Mr. Kunhalikutty and submitted a petition regarding the release of their relatives who are in jail in connection with the Marad incidents. The Minister assured them that their grievances would be looked into.
