Temperature

TIRUCHI MARCH 13 . The City today registered a maximum temperature of 35.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.5 degree Celsius.

Meeting

The Additional Director General of Police, Home Guards, P. Kalimuthu, today held discussions with area commanders of Home Guards of all districts in the State on various issues including drafting of home guards for election duty.

The participation of Home Guards in traffic and special duties on important occasions like during the visit of VIPs was discussed on the occasion.

The Assistant Director Generals, Home Guards, Jayachandran (Cuddalore), and Sivakumar (Coimbatore) participated in the meeting along with area commanders, according to official sources.

Demonstration

Members of the All India Democratic Women's Association staged a demonstration here today to highlight the evils of poverty, menace of violence and various other local issues.

The president of the urban district unit of the AIDWA, U. Nirmala Rani, led the agitation, in which its State deputy secretary, Chandra Athreya, district president, G. Vijayalakshmi, its secretary, Malarvizhi Sundaram, and the secretary of the urban district unit, S. Rehana, participated.

The AIDWA sources said petitions would be presented to officials on lack of infrastructure facilities, the problems confronting the farm labourers, beedi workers, handloom workers etc.

Cell set up

An election complaint cell has been set up at the Collectorate here to enable the public to lodge complaints and suggestions, if any, with regard to the elections.

Voters could prefer their complaints over the telephone number (2400191) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on working days or deposit their written submissions at the box kept in this regard at the office of the Collector, K.Manivasan, says a press release. The complaints and suggestions would be forwarded to the officers concerned for appropriate action, the release added.

Mettur level

Water level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 25.01 feet today. The inflow was 54 cusecs and discharge 563 cusecs.
