HYDERABAD, MARCH 13. He could be a debutante in the electoral battle. But he is aiming to hit the bull's eye at the first go. Confident of being fielded for the Maharajgunj constituency by the Congress high command, Anjan Kumar Yadav, the City Congress president has already begun his canvassing albeit on a low-key in the smallest constituency in the State. The bearded man, who managed not to rub any senior Congress leader on the wrong shoulder in the State capital, is rearing to jump into the electoral arena. But before that he has to win another battle, that of getting the party ticket. Anjan Kumar Yadav lists out his strong points for being the Congress candidate from Maharajgunj constituency. Why do you think you should be given the ticket from Maharajgunj constituency? "I have been very active in taking up many issues concerning people and I feel I am the right candidate to take on the sitting BJP legislator Prem Singh Rathore. I represent the Yadav community, which has large presence in Maharajgunj constituency. I have my family roots in Maharajgunj. Moreover, I have the clean image." Why should your party high command select you ignoring the party candidate who was defeated last year? "It's for the party high command to decide, but I feel I am suitable for being the candidate. My participation in various agitational programmes highlighting people's problems is my strength. Our leader Sonia Gandhi sent me many letters appreciating my participation in agitations. Moreover, no candidate hailing from the Yadav community had been fielded by my party so far in the twin cities. Isn't BJP strong in Maharajgunj constituency? "Of the five divisions of the municipal corporation, two are represented by the Congress, two by the Telugu Desam and one by the BJP. But I have my own strength. I know people from all the communities."
