THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 13. An action plan to supply drinking water in Thiruvananthapuram was drawn up at a meeting of people's representatives and officials chaired by the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, G. Karthikeyan, here today. Drinking water will be distributed in 20 tankers from the drinking water schemes in Neyyattinkara taluk. A sum of Rs.5 lakhs was sanctioned for 14 drinking water schemes. It has been decided to extend the pipelines, deepen the wells and set up 49 tube-wells in various panchayats. The meeting at Chirayinkeezh Taluk Office has decided to give power connection for drinking water schemes. Mr. Karthikeyan directed the Kerala Water Authority officials to supply water in tanker lorries according to the directions of the panchayat presidents in Thiruvananthapuram taluk. As many as 52 tube-wells would be dug in the taluk.
Corporation plan
The City Corporation would spend Rs.20 lakhs for reaching water to the drought hit areas in tanker lorries, according to the Mayor, J. Chandra. She told reporters on Friday that Councillors had been asked to prepare estimate of various works to be submitted before the District Planning Committee. The drought relief activities to be taken up by the Corporation include revival of ponds and wells and extension of pipelines to new areas.
