KOCHI, MARCH 13. The Directorate of Distance Education, Annamalai University, has opened a study centre at Pandikudy here. The Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University, L. B. Venkatrangan, inaugurated the centre. The centre was set up as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the university and Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Directorate of Distance Education. The Directorate of Distance Education offers 154 different programmes of study under the regular stream and 28 programmes under the open university system. According to a press release issued by the university, the Directorate has the largest enrolment in the country with 2.6 lakh students on its rolls. It was the distance education centre to offer postgraduate degree programmes in applied psychology, physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, bio-informatics and law. The Directorate has introduced a dual degree system to enable a candidate to earn two degrees in four years with a significant focus on Information Technology education. It also has introduced several IT-based programmes like MCA, BCA, PGDCA, MSc (IT), etc.
