This Day That Age
Several battalions of French and Viet Namese seaborne troops landed on the coast of Central Annam and seized the important Viet Minh port of Qui Nhon, the French High Command announced in Saigon on March 14. Shock troops stormed the beaches soon after dawn, under cover of Bearcat fighters. The attack was backed by a strong French fleet, with five tank-landing ships and many small craft. Taking part in the operation was one of the new light battalions of the Viet Namese army which is being rapidly armed with American automatic weapons to suppress Viet Minh guerillas and regional forces.
