P.J. Antony remembered

KOCHI, MARCH 14. Art and culture can communicate to people in all contexts and circumstances, the Minister for Culture, G. Karthikeyan, has said.

He was speaking after the inauguration of the P.J. Antony Memorial Lecture here today.

He said that P.J. Antony had made laudable contributions to many fields including films, plays, acting, script-writing and direction.

Giving away the first P. J. Antony Yuva Prathibha award to the director, Manoj Kana, who is also recipient of the Sangeeta Nataka Akademi awards for best play and direction for `Uratti', the Minister said that Mr. Kana's encouragement lay in the fact that his play had become a topic of discussion among theatre enthusiasts.

At the programme organised by the P.J. Antony Memorial Foundation, the foundation president, E.N. Purushothaman, presided. The Mayor, C.M. Dinesh Mani, and the president of the Purogamana Kalasahithya Sangham, S. Ramesh, spoke. Mary Antony, wife of the late actor, was present on the occasion.

Prabha Varma, poet, delivered a memorial lecture on `Art and Time'.

The Foundation screened a documentary on P.J. Antony, which was followed by the staging of Mr. Kana's `Uratti'.
