Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the news that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, has ordered special treatment for head-constable Rathinam of Salem who chopped off his fingers as an offering to a temple for the victory of the AIADMK in the elections. The order to shift him to a private hospital for treatment at the expense of the AIADMK sets a bad precedent. While Rathinam may have personal affinity for a political party, as a Government employee he should not have exhibited his `loyalty' thus. The policeman should be asked to resign or disciplinary action initiated against him. S. Bakthavathsalan, Gurgaon, Haryana
