BANGALORE, MARCH 14. The draw for the Mandiri Thomas Cup and Uber Cup finals, scheduled to be held from May 7, took place on Saturday in Jakarta. The host Indonesia has been drawn to meet China in the initial group phases of both the men's and women's team competitions, according to International Badminton Federation (IBF). China is the favourite to take home both pieces of IBF's most illustrious silverware from the men's and women's world team championship finals at the Gelora Bung Karno Senayan Stadium. In the Thomas Cup, China's men will also face Pan-American contender USA in Group A, while second seed Denmark is up against Japan and England in Group B. Group B sees Korea pitted against European zone runner-up Germany and Oceania qualifier, New Zealand, while Malaysia takes on South-East Asian neighbour Thailand and South Africa in Group C. In the Uber Cup, China's women will meet the Netherlands and Indonesia in Group W, while second seed and 2002 runner-up Korea has drawn two opponents from the Commonwealth Australia and Canada in Group Z. Surprise qualifier Chinese Taipei is up against Germany and South Africa in Group X, while in Group Y, Japan is drawn against European zone winner Denmark and Malaysia. The groupings: Thomas Cup: Group A: China, Indonesia and USA. Group B: Korea, Germany and New Zealand. Group C: Malyasia, Thailand and South Africa. Group D: Denmark, Japan and England. Uber Cup: Group W: China, Netherlands and Indonesia. Group X: Chinese Taipei, Germany and South Africa. Group Y: Japan, Denmark and Malaysia. Group Z: Korea, Australia and Canada.
