MADHEPURA, MARCH 14. At least 48 people have been arrested during a special drive launched by the police in Madhepura parliamentary constituency which is expected to witness a keen fight between senior JD (U) leader and Union Minister, Sharad Yadav, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, the police said today. Anti-socials, including some active members of the notorious Faizan gang and a history-sheeter of Purnea and Koshi region, Salauddin, wanted in connection with dacoity at the house of RJD MLA, Vijay Kumar Singh, and several other cases of dacoity and murder, were arrested during the intensive police campaign for peaceful conduct of polls here, the Superintendent of Police, Shoaib Akhtar, told reporters here. The SP said Salauddin was caught from neighbouring Kisanganj district on a tip-off. Three active members of notorious Faizan gang O.P. Mandal, Uchhit Mandal and Mahanthi Mandal -- were also arrested from different places in Madhepura during round-the-clock raids. Madhepura parliamentary constituency is tipped to witness keen contest between Sharad Yadav and Laloo Prasad Yadav. While Sharad Yadav represented the constituency in the dissolved Lok Sabha, the RJD supremo who lost to the JD (U) leader last time has already announced enter the fray from here again. -- PTI
