SHIMLA, MARCH 14. The State BJP has renominated its sitting MPs from the three constituencies of Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra. They are Maheshwar Singh, Suresh Chandel and Shanta Kumar respectively. Their names were announced in the first list of 136 candidates released by the BJP general secretary, Pramod Mahajan, in New Delhi today. The fourth candidate from the Shimla reserve parliamentary seat is yet to be announced. The party had supported Col. Dhani Ram Shandil of Himachal Vikas Congress in the last elections, who has now joined the Congress. The party is thinking seriously to field H.N. Kashyap, a serving bureaucrat who is remembered for his tenure as Shimla Municipal Corporation Commissioner, from this seat. Due to certain official formalities his name was not announced today, according to the party sources. There is no surprise in the declaration of candidates today though a change was expected from Hamirpur from where the former Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal, was one of the strong contenders. On the other hand the Congress as expected, has fielded the three senior Ministers, Thakur Kaul Singh, Ram Lal and Chander Kumar from these constituencies. Col. Dhani Ram Shandil has been rewarded with the ticket as promised when he joined the party. In an another important move the Congress high command has reportedly cleared the name of AICC spokesman Anand Sharma as party's candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat. The party MLAs opposing his candidature have not been given audience by the Congress President, AICC sources said. Only two days are left for filing nominations for the Upper House from the State.
