UDUPI, MARCH 14. The Manipal Institute of Communication, with assistance from the Ford Foundation, has organised a colloquium on "Rediscovering radio in India" from Tuesday to Thursday at Manipal. In a press release issued here, the Director of the institute, Leela Rao, said the colloquium aimed at recording the achievements and limitations of the radio broadcasting system in the country and discussing new opportunities and challenges that needed to be reflected in the new policy directives for broadcasting. The Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board, M.V. Kamath, would inaugurate the colloquium on March 16. The Chief Executive Officer of the Board, K.S. Sarma, and the Director General of All India Radio, Brijeshwar Singh, would be the chief guests. The President of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), T. Ramdas Pai, would preside over the inaugural function, she said. Prof. Rao said the colloquium would be attended by a host of scholars from India and abroad, including Venugopal, Vice-President of Worldspace India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, B.P. Sanjay, Director of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi, Sunil Wijesingha, Controller of Rajarata FM, Sri Lanka, Sumantra Dutta, Chief Executive Officer of Radio City, Mumbai, N.G. Srinivas, DG (Marketing), DD/AIR, Chennai, Supinya Klangnarong, Secretary General of the Campaign for Popular Media Reforms, Thailand, Venkatakrishna of BECIL, Delhi, and Sisir Bose of Banaras Hindu University.
